Collection Carousel Films


Films made by participants in Carousel, an arts organisation that creates projects by and for people with learning disabilities. Many of the films are made in collaboration with Junk TV and Oska Bright and the collection includes mixed medium film, music by Beat Express, animation, and expressive arts performance techniques in the productions.

Carousel is an award winning learning disability-led arts organisation based in Brighton, UK. founded in 1982 to promote the active involvement of people with a learning disability in the arts, teaching new artistic skills and developing existing talents. The organisation collaborates with local partner organisations such as the Glyndebourne Opera House, Pallant House Gallery, Junk TV and the West Sussex Arts Partnership. Local museums and galleries across Brighton and Hove also host and support work created by Carousel participants.

The films featured in this collection highlight some of the projects undertaken with local school groups and young adults as well as larger community projects, such as 'Debbie Rock Angel' - the first rock opera performed, directed and produced by a learning disabled group and the Osca Bright Film Festival.

Junk TV is a Brighton-based video production, education and screening company that specialises in youth and community video production, DVD production and community-based film and short film production.
