Description

The Guinea Pig club was a social club for wartime patients (RAF or allied service personnel ) based at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. Members of The Guinea Pig Club underwent pioneering reconstructive plastic surgery on injuries sustained during their service throughout the Second World War (1939-1945). The club at its height, had a total of 649 members with many of them featuring in the series of films.

In this collection, members and their families are seen attending a series of annual reunions held in hotels and public houses in East Grinstead from 1960 to the late 1980s. The collection also shows scenes of the town of East Grinstead, a visit to 'The Guinea Pig' building and views of the gardens and grounds of the hotels club where events are held.

In addition to the amateur material, the collection also includes a number of broadcast and commercial titles on the history of The Guinea Pig Club and its members.
