This film shows scenes from The Battle of Lewes 700th Anniversary celebrations held in May 1964, with highlights of the Carnival parade led by the East Sussex Road Safety Organisation and Miss Lewes in a vintage convertible car. The second part shows scenes from a children's School Sports day, showing girls participating in several races and other sporting events.
This film opens with scenes of a Carnival parade for The Battle of Lewes entering the Priory grounds [Ham Lane behind Priory School]. Floats show Miss Lewes and her juniors sat in a convertible car, led by a series of floats that include the East Sussex Road Safety Organisation, a Policing float showing uniforms through the ages, a group of musicians playing guitars on a float decorated with a painting of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton and The East Sussex School of Agriculture, Plumpton with a wooden cow float. The main procession is followed by shots of a Military Marching Band [Royal Marines, Portsmouth?] and attendance by the Southdown Foxhounds led by a mounted Master of the Foxhounds. Scenes also show the fairground and amusements on the Priory fields.
The second part shows highlights form a sports day events that includes running races, the high jump, skipping rope races, and an obstacle course.
